[Financial News] The government will invest KRW 4.7 trillion to develop a homegrown AI model comparable to global frontier-level artificial intelligence (AI) models.
According to the Ministry of Science and ICT and other relevant ministries on the 8th, the government plans to invest KRW 4.7 trillion through the Future Response Fund to support the development of frontier AI models.
The funds are reportedly included in the approximately KRW 9.4 trillion AI budget proposed by the Ministry of Science and ICT for next year.
The government plans to launch the project, judging that investment in developing frontier-level AI models is needed in South Korea as global AI companies continue to release ultra-high-performance models.
However, specific support methods, including whether the project will be linked to the ongoing independent AI foundation model development project, have not yet been decided.
