Samsung Electronics, Mistral AI Form Strategic Partnership to Build Semiconductor-Specialized AI

[Financial News] Samsung Electronics said on the 8th, local time, that it had entered into a strategic partnership with French artificial intelligence (AI) company Mistral AI and agreed to jointly develop its own AI model specialized in semiconductor design and manufacturing.
The partnership will combine Samsung Electronics’ semiconductor technology and manufacturing data with Mistral AI’s high-efficiency AI model technology to build AI specialized for semiconductors, enhancing productivity and precision across semiconductor operations.
Samsung Electronics is also making a large-scale equity investment in Mistral AI to strengthen their strategic cooperation and establish a foundation for long-term technological collaboration and joint business initiatives.
The partnership was formed around the time of a Korea-France summit. Led by CEO Arthur Mensch, Mistral AI is a representative company in Europe’s AI ecosystem, founded by AI researchers from Google DeepMind and Meta Platforms.
Mistral AI has the technological capabilities to build customized AI models for industries such as finance, manufacturing, and energy, where a high level of data security is required.
Samsung Electronics will use Mistral AI’s AI solutions, including its high-efficiency large language model (LLM) Mistral Large, to develop its own AI models optimized for proprietary data from the Device Solutions (DS) Division.
Samsung Electronics plans to apply the technology in stages to data analysis, defect prediction, and process optimization at semiconductor design and manufacturing sites. The company expects this to shorten development periods while improving manufacturing efficiency and quality.
Samsung Electronics plans to expand the cooperation across the entire Device Solutions Division, including memory, foundry, and logic, and apply it toward building an AI-based semiconductor ecosystem that can eventually connect customers and partners as well.
Jun Young-hyun, head of Samsung Electronics’ Device Solutions Division, said, "As the complexity of semiconductor design and manufacturing is rapidly increasing, the ability to use vast amounts of data securely and precisely is becoming a key competitive advantage. Together with Mistral AI, we will build AI models and platforms specialized for the semiconductor industry and establish a new standard for AI-driven semiconductor innovation."
