[Financial News] A daughter-in-law’s story has emerged about the difficulties she faces because her mother-in-law and sister-in-law demand that she work while insisting that childcare must not be entrusted to someone else.
The story became known through a post uploaded to an online community on the 6th. The writer said her mother-in-law and sister-in-law take the daughter-in-law’s role for granted and even say, "What woman doesn't earn money these days?"
Daughter-in-law A said she had been in conflict with her in-laws since the early days of her marriage. She stated, "From the beginning of my marriage, my mother-in-law and sister-in-law repeatedly made inappropriate remarks and behaved in ways that crossed the line, saying things like 'Get divorced' and 'Don't get divorced.' With my husband mediating, I now keep a certain distance from my in-laws, limiting contact to holidays and birthdays."
She said the situation changed after she gave birth. When her mother-in-law wanted to see her grandchild, A arranged for only the child and her husband to visit the in-laws.
Her mother-in-law’s remarks hurt A. The mother-in-law said, "The child doesn't even look for its mother. The child can do without its mother," while also asking A, "Why aren't you, the mother, coming along?"
A said she found her mother-in-law’s attitude difficult to understand. She wrote, "If you say the baby is doing fine alone and don't even dote on the child, why do you want to see a daughter-in-law you don't like?"
A also brought up what happened when her child was hospitalized in the past. She said, "Even though my child was hospitalized, my mother-in-law called my husband, saying, 'I'm in worse pain' and that she needed to go to the emergency room. She spoke as if she were about to die, but all the hospital tests came back normal." She added, "I tried not to burden her with childcare, and she receives financial help from us as well. I don't understand why she doesn't know how to appreciate her daughter-in-law."
A also expressed frustration with her sister-in-law. She said the sister-in-law "takes everything a daughter-in-law or sister-in-law does for granted, while considering anything she does herself extremely impressive and difficult," adding that she "casually says, 'What woman doesn't earn money these days?'"
A said the demands regarding dual-income work and childcare were contradictory. She stated, "They want their daughter-in-law to earn money, but then say the child must not be left in someone else's care." She added, "They don't support me so that I can focus solely on the child without earning money, yet they keep telling me what to do. Dealing with my in-laws is really difficult."
Online commenters advised her to maintain her distance from her in-laws. Comments included, "They want the daughter-in-law to become their servant," "Keep sending only your husband and child, as you are doing now, and don't worry about them," and "They are the kind of people who could badmouth the child's mother in front of the child."
