Interior Ministry to Establish Digital Government Cooperation Center in Georgia, Expand AI Partnership

[Financial News] A hub for expanding Korea’s artificial intelligence (AI) and digital government models across the Caucasus region will be established in Georgia. The government will operate a Digital Government Cooperation Center in Georgia’s capital, Tbilisi, for three years. It will support the local government’s digital transformation while also helping Korean information and communications technology (ICT) companies enter the market.
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety (MOIS) said on the 8th that Minister Yun Ho-jung met with Paata Salia, Georgia’s minister of justice, who was visiting Korea, at the Seoul Government Complex and signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on cooperation in digital government.
Under the MOU, the two countries will operate a Digital Government Cooperation Center in Tbilisi from 2026 to 2028. Experts will be dispatched to the center to provide advice on laws and institutions related to AI and digital government, as well as support pilot information system projects.
This year, the center will develop an advancement strategy and roadmap for my.gov.ge, Georgia’s integrated e-government portal, and provide advice on Korea’s public-sector AI applications and related policies. Georgian public officials will also be invited to Korea for training to strengthen their digital government capabilities.
Support for Korean companies seeking to enter the local market will proceed in parallel. MOIS plans to strengthen assistance so Korean ICT companies can participate in and win AI and digital government projects commissioned by the Georgian government.
MOIS currently operates digital government cooperation centers in six countries: Serbia, Peru, Honduras, Cambodia, Egypt and Uzbekistan. If Georgia and Colombia are added this year, the cooperation network will expand to eight countries.
Minister Yun said, "With the signing of this MOU, we expect Korea’s AI and digital government models to spread across the Caucasus region, including Georgia, and Korean companies to become even more active in entering local markets."
