"Check Whether You Have a Criminal Record Too" Jeju YouTuber Says He Received More Than 1,000 Malicious Comments

[Financial News] A well-known YouTuber who has posted content about Jeju Island said he received more than 1,000 malicious comments following a recent incident in the region.
A video titled "Regarding Recent Events" was uploaded to the YouTube channel 'Moraenghaman' on the 28th of last month. In the video, he said, "I think there have been more than 1,000 malicious comments recently," adding, "They have been pouring in to the point that they are appearing in the news."
The malicious comments included not only criticism directed at the YouTuber personally but also remarks targeting Jeju residents as a whole. Users wrote, "Check whether you have a criminal record too," "Don't you bear some responsibility as well?" and "Is this jerk Jeju's tourism ambassador?" Other comments included, "Stop promoting dangerous Jeju Island," and "The people living on Jeju Island must all be in on it."
He indicated that he could not understand why criticism was being directed at him. He continued, "Jeju Island has long been called Sammudo, or the island without three things," adding, "Because people helped one another, there were no beggars; because no one went hungry, there were no thieves; and because there were no thieves, gates were unnecessary." He also said, "I grew up hearing these stories and believed that Jeju was a safe and peaceful island."
He said he was also concerned about the incidents that recently occurred on Jeju Island. "When I see what is happening on Jeju Island these days, I am worried as a Jeju resident as well," he said. "The questions many people have are the same ones I have, and I believe the truth should be properly established."
He also urged people to stop indiscriminate criticism. "I don't know why people are leaving comments like these for me," he said. "My family and the people I love live on Jeju Island, so if this continues, I and the other residents will be the ones who feel the most anxious." He added, "I am not taking anyone's side. I only hope that the facts will be clearly established so that no further questions remain and Jeju can regain its image as a peaceful island."
He also shared his thoughts in text below the video. "Most residents are going about their daily lives as usual," he wrote. "Just as people on the mainland might tell residents to be careful when walking at night if something happened in their neighborhood, that is all one could say." He added, "The comments were completely off the mark, so I was not hurt by them," and said, "I will continue to show the many sides of Jeju through my own perspective."
