Daegu Mayor Choo Kyung-ho Brings Together First District and County Heads of Ninth Popularly Elected Administration

On the afternoon of the 8th, Daegu Metropolitan City held the first Mayor, District and County Heads’ Policy Meeting of the ninth popularly elected administration, attended by Mayor Choo Kyung-ho and the heads of nine districts and counties. The meeting marked the beginning of full-scale communication and cooperation between the city and its districts and counties.
In particular, the meeting was the first policy consultation organized by the city and its districts and counties since the launch of the ninth popularly elected administration. It was arranged to share major city-government issues and district- and county-level concerns, exchange views, and seek joint solutions.
Mayor Choo emphasized, "Daegu is one city, but conditions and residents’ needs vary from district to county. While respecting the characteristics and voices of each district and county, the city will connect and coordinate where necessary and build the strength of Daegu as a whole."
He added, "The city, districts and counties are like the gears of a single clock moving together. Our roles and characteristics may differ, but when we work in sync, we can create changes that citizens can feel and bring about greater development for Daegu."
The meeting focused on jointly resolving issues closely tied to residents’ daily lives and on plans for the administrative integration of Daegu and North Gyeongsang Province.
The city, districts and counties agreed to identify and resolve issues closely tied to residents’ daily lives together, beyond the boundaries of their respective agencies. They also plan to share major local issues, livelihood trends and public opinion on an ongoing basis so they can respond quickly to matters requiring city-level support or coordination.
They also agreed that the administrative integration of Daegu and North Gyeongsang Province is an important task for enhancing the region’s future competitiveness, and pledged to join forces for the passage of the Special Act on the Administrative Integration of Daegu and North Gyeongsang Province and its subsequent implementation.
The city asked the districts and counties to actively cooperate in strengthening implementation so that integrated care can operate smoothly on the ground, expanding orders for local construction companies and tightening subcontracting management.
Meanwhile, the city plans to resume the quarterly Mayor, District and County Heads’ Policy Meeting, which had been suspended, and hold it in rotation across the districts and counties. It will develop the meeting into a substantive policy consultation channel for directly hearing voices from the field.
The meeting of deputy heads of local governments, currently held every other month, will also be used as an implementation channel to coordinate major issues in advance and check follow-up measures on matters discussed at the policy meetings, thereby supporting the cooperation system between the city and its districts and counties.
