Soongsil University Selected for Science and Engineering Research Living Stipend Program; KRW 5.5 Billion in Support Through 2034

[Financial News] Soongsil University has been newly selected for the Ministry of Science and ICT’s “2026 Second-Half Research Living Stipend Support Program for Science and Engineering Graduate Students” and will receive approximately KRW 5.5 billion in support through 2034.
Soongsil University announced on the 8th that, following its selection for the program, it will establish a system for paying research living stipends to full-time master’s and doctoral students in science and engineering with government support from this month through February 2034.
The research living stipend support program for science and engineering graduate students links additional government funding to student support payments provided through government research and development (R&D) projects and other sources, enabling graduate students to focus steadily on their research. Its key feature is to ensure research living stipends of at least KRW 800,000 per month for master’s students and KRW 1.1 million per month for doctoral students.
Soongsil University plans to establish a dedicated unit, the “Research Living Stipend Program Operations Team,” within the Research and Business Foundation’s Research Management Team to manage the funding. It will pay research living stipends at or above the prescribed amount to full-time master’s and doctoral students in science and engineering who participate in research activities. The university will also establish a performance-based reward system for outstanding researchers and laboratories.
In the early stages of the program, the university will focus on establishing a system for paying and managing the stipends and guaranteeing graduate students the designated minimum support amount. It plans to subsequently increase the level of support by expanding its own university funding.
