Nikon Accelerates Push into the Video Market, Expanding Its Cinema Lens Lineup to Nine Models

[Financial News] Nikon Imaging Korea Co., Ltd. announced on the 8th that it had updated the firmware of Nikon's first cinema camera, the Nikon RED ZR, to version 2.00 and was embarking on full-scale development of the cinema lens 'NIKKOR Z CINEMA T1.9 VV'.
This is a move to significantly strengthen Nikon's competitiveness in the imaging sector.
Nikon is embarking on a full-scale effort to build video solutions encompassing cinema cameras and lenses to expand its product competitiveness in the video production market, moving beyond photography.
In particular, the strategy is to expand its presence in the high-end video market by simultaneously strengthening camera video production capabilities and lens lineups based on cooperation with Red Digital Cinema.
This firmware update focuses on improving the video production workflow to enable a wide range of users, from high-end video producers to content creators, to shoot conveniently.
When shooting in H.265 format, it supports 'Log3G10' and 'RED WideGamutRGB,' enabling users to efficiently maintain file sizes while securing a higher level of color correction flexibility during post-production. For H.265 Log shooting, users can select a 'High ISO NR' level. Nikon explains that this allows users to adjust the noise reduction level according to the shooting environment and the intent of the content, making it possible to shoot in a way that matches the mood and style of expression of the video.
A feature supporting focus peaking display when shooting in the R3D NE format is also added. This allows for more precise verification of the subject's focus status during shooting and is expected to increase its usefulness in video production environments requiring manual focus operation.
Nikon is also developing additional features for the Nikon RED ZR. It is developing new firmware with the goal of applying it in 2027, including features highly requested by users such as open-gate shooting and a de-squeeze display for anamorphic lens users.
The remote control capabilities of the Nikon RED ZR are also set to be enhanced. Red Digital Cinema is updating its remote control applications, 'RED Control' and 'RED CONTROL PRO', and plans to support remote control of the Nikon RED ZR through these applications in the future.
Nikon is expanding its lineup of cinema lenses as well as cameras. It plans to expand the 'NIKKOR Z CINEMA T1.9 VV' series, targeting cinema and high-end video production sites and content creators, to a total of nine models.
