A 2.8-Kilogram Rock Pierces Car Roof—What Happened in a Busan Parking Lot

[Financial News] A 2.8-kilogram rock fell onto a passenger car parked in a lot near Haeundae Beach in Busan, piercing the vehicle’s roof.
Police believe the rock fell from a nearby apartment building, but they were unable to identify a suspect despite tracking the case for about two months.
According to Busan Haeundae Police Station on the 8th, a rock measuring 19 centimeters wide and 12 centimeters long fell onto a passenger car parked in a lot near Haeundae Beach on July 10. The rock pierced the vehicle’s roof and entered the cabin, where it was found near the car seat.
No one was inside the passenger car when the rock fell. Although the impact was strong enough to penetrate the roof, there were no injuries.
Police investigated the possibility that the rock had fallen from an apartment building with open corridors near the parking lot. They tracked the circumstances for about two months after finding that rocks similar in shape to the one recovered from the damaged vehicle were used at the apartment complex to hold iron gates in place.
Police asked the National Forensic Service to conduct DNA analysis in an effort to identify the suspect from traces on the rock. They also questioned apartment residents and others in the area, but were unable to find the suspect.
Busan Haeundae Police Station plans to continue the investigation if new clues emerge and to step up patrols in the area.
