POSCO E&C "Saves 8,500 kWh of Electricity Over Four Months Through the THE SHARP Energy-Saving Challenge"

[Financial News] POSCO E&C announced on the 8th that it had saved a total of 8,500 kWh of electricity over four months through the 'THE SHARP Energy-Saving Challenge.' The result was achieved by encouraging residents to voluntarily save energy through a smart-home-platform-based automated demand response system, in collaboration with the Korea Power Exchange (KPX), POSCO DX COMPANY LTD., and Paran Energy.
As the importance of a stable power supply grows amid recent energy-supply instability originating in the Middle East and heatwaves, POSCO E&C has established and is operating a smart-home-platform-based 'Automated Demand Response (Auto-DR)' system, enabling residents to easily participate in energy saving in their daily lives.
Automated Demand Response (Auto-DR) is a technology in which a smart-home system automatically controls home appliances to reduce electricity consumption when power demand surges. Residents can participate in the Korea Power Exchange's demand-response program without any cumbersome操作 and receive rewards based on their savings.
In July 2024, POSCO E&C signed a "Memorandum of Understanding for the Supply of Automated Demand Response (Auto-DR) to 100,000 Multi-Unit Housing Households" with relevant organizations. Starting with the new complex 'The Sharp Uijeongbu Rhythm City,' the company has expanded infrastructure coverage to 32 THE SHARP complexes nationwide, serving approximately 20,000 households.
A total of 3,850 households from 32 complexes voluntarily participated in the challenge. It received a strong response, with more than 70% of enrolled households taking part in the 15 demand-response events held over four months. The 8,500 kWh saved is equivalent to the amount of electricity used in one day by an apartment complex of approximately 1,000 households.
On the 4th, an awards ceremony was held at The Sharp Gallery in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, for outstanding participating households. Kim Mi-kyung, a resident of The Sharp Cheongju Greenity who won the grand prize, said, "I felt a sense of fulfillment because I was able to receive a reward for reducing electricity use while contributing to the Earth and the environment. I will continue to actively participate in the program."
A POSCO E&C official said, "It is meaningful that residents were able to participate in energy saving easily and conveniently from their homes and achieve actual reductions. We will continue expanding the number of complexes using Automated Demand Response (Auto-DR) to bring forward our goal of deploying it to 100,000 multi-unit housing households and lead the way in eco-friendly residential services."
