[Financial News] People Power Party lawmaker Ahn Cheol-soo urged that broker Mr. Yang and the investigating prosecutor be called as witnesses in connection with the so-called 'COVID-19 new drug solicitation allegations' involving Ministry of Justice ministerial nominee Kim Seung-won.
On the 8th, Ahn Cheol-soo posted a message on his Facebook page titled, "The Democratic Party and nominee Kim Seung-won must call broker Yang and the investigating prosecutor as witnesses."
Ahn Cheol-soo pointed out, "Controversies regarding lobbying, solicitation, and the brother of Ministry of Justice ministerial nominee Kim Seung-won have been ongoing," adding, "Shouldn't we verify at the hearing whether Mr. Yang had an intention to solicit and whether the investigation materials were leaked from the prosecution?"
He continued by criticizing, "As suspicions of the prosecution's leak of investigation materials mount, the left-wing camp, which was split by Yong Hye-in, is rallying together and acting even more aggressively," adding, "Nominee Kim is also pretending to be a victim who has been framed, packaging the solicitation as a public-interest petition, and talking about criminal punishment regarding the source of the materials."
He said, "If the Democratic Party and nominee Kim are confident that the 'brother' solicitation is not true, they should call broker Yang as a witness at the confirmation hearing," adding, "Wouldn't the suspicions be resolved if they directly asked and heard when the 'brother' relationship began, for what reason it continued, and why the transfer of sponsorship money was mentioned when it was not lobbying the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety?"
Regarding the controversy over the leak of prosecution investigation materials, Ahn Cheol-soo stated, "Wouldn't it be sufficient to summon the investigating prosecutor and the person in charge to verify whether prosecution records, such as mobile phone forensic transcripts and indictment plans, were actually written by the prosecution or whether they were disclosed by a lawmaker who is a former prosecutor?" He added, "In particular, regarding the suspicion that the prosecution planned to seek a prison sentence but changed course to a deferred prosecution, the truth can be confirmed directly with the prosecutor in charge."
He went on to lash out, stating, "Nominee Kim Seung-won is unqualified based solely on the information released," and asking, "How can a 'brother' serving as minister represent the nation's legal administration?"
Ahn Cheol-soo continued, "The current allegations must be clearly and thoroughly explained to the public," adding, "Only then will the boundary between solicitation and civil complaints be clearly defined, and investigative materials will not be misused as bait for the media." He further added, "In that sense, I hope the Democratic Party and nominee Kim will definitely summon Mr. Yang and prosecution officials as witnesses to the hearing."
