[Financial News] Shinsegae Department Store will introduce the industry's first 'QR Direct Order' service at holiday event venues across all its stores through the 23rd. The service allows customers to complete payment and shipping registration with a single QR code.
According to Shinsegae Department Store on the 8th, QR Direct Order allows customers to inspect products in person at an offline store, then scan a QR code to complete payment and request delivery in one step. Customers do not need to visit a separate shipping counter, reducing wait times when purchasing holiday gifts.
The service is expected to be particularly convenient for customers making small purchases. Shinsegae Department Store said that about 45% of holiday gift orders at Shinsegae Gangnam were single-item orders. Previously, customers buying just one item had to wait alongside those placing multiple orders to register for delivery. With the new service, they can complete their orders immediately at the spot where they select their products. It takes about 30 seconds from payment to completion of shipping registration.
Customers who order by QR code can receive the same benefits as those who pay directly at the department store. During the event period, customers who join Shinbaek Members and pay with a Shinsegae Affiliated Card will receive up to 7% of their combined food-brand purchases back in Shinbaek Rewards. Shinbaek Rewards is a mobile reward that can be used like cash at Shinsegae Department Store.
Shinsegae Department Store plans to analyze service usage and shipping-registration efficiency during this Chuseok holiday period before expanding the scope of QR Direct Order. The company plans to extend the service beyond holiday event venues to in-store kiosks, elevators and VIP lounges.
Lee Seong-geun, who oversees digital AI at Shinsegae Department Store, said, "The service preserves the advantage of department stores, where customers can see and choose products in person, while making payment and delivery as convenient as they are online." He added, "We will continue to actively incorporate digital technology to reduce customer wait times and create an even more convenient shopping experience."
