[Financial News] Shinhan Bank is expanding investment options so customers can purchase government bonds for individual investors through their retirement-pension accounts.
On the 8th, Shinhan Bank announced that it will begin offering 10-year and 20-year government bonds for individual investors through Defined Contribution Retirement Pension (DC) and Individual Retirement Pension (IRP) accounts starting September 9, expanding long-term asset-management options for retirement-pension customers.
Shinhan Bank completed the relevant systems ahead of the first subscription period. As a result, Shinhan Bank customers with DC and IRP accounts can apply through their existing retirement-pension accounts without opening a separate account dedicated to government bonds for individual investors, either via the Shinhan Super SOL integrated app or at a branch. The first subscription period will run from September 9 to 15, with applications available from a minimum of 100,000 won in increments of 100,000 won.
An event will also be held for DC and IRP customers during the first subscription period. Among customers who subscribe to and receive an allocation of government bonds for individual investors during the period, 700 winners selected by lottery will receive mobile coffee coupons. One mobile coffee coupon will be provided to 400 customers who subscribe for at least 100,000 won, while 300 customers who subscribe for at least 3 million won will receive two mobile coffee coupons.
Government bonds for individual investors are issued by the government to support individuals in building long-term assets. If held until maturity, the interest rate, consisting of the coupon rate plus an additional rate, is applied on an annual compound basis. Investing through a retirement-pension account also provides existing retirement-pension tax benefits, including deferred taxation on investment returns and the application of pension income tax when receiving pension payments. However, customers should check the relevant conditions in advance, as the additional rate and annual compounding benefits do not apply in the event of early redemption.
Shinhan Bank ranked first among all retirement-pension providers, with retirement-pension reserves of 58.8888 trillion won as of the end of the second quarter of this year. Building on this position, Shinhan Bank plans to continue expanding its product lineup and professional consulting capabilities, strengthen its management of customers’ retirement assets, and solidify its position as a retirement-pension specialist bank.
A Shinhan Bank official said, "Retirement pensions are not just about building up reserves; it is also important to determine how assets will be managed over the long term until retirement." The official added, "Through this offering of government bonds for individual investors, we will expand customers’ long-term asset-management options and continue introducing a variety of products and services tailored to their retirement timelines and financial plans."
