221 Independent Publishing Teams Gather in One Place for a Book Festival at the National Library of Korea

[Financial News] A total of 221 independent publishing teams from Korea and abroad will meet readers at the National Library of Korea. The festival will feature exhibitions and sales of books and creative works, along with book talks and hands-on creative workshops.
According to the National Library of Korea on the 8th, the '2026 Seoul Publishers Table,' co-hosted with Storage Book and Film, will run from the 11th through the 13th. Admission is free for everyone.
Novelist Kim Keum-hee and Yuki Aima, a D&DEPARTMENT food director, will take part in book talks and discussions. Kim Keum-hee will share her experience as a reader, writer, and publisher, while Yuki Aima will introduce sustainable food culture. Representatives of Anon Books and Darambooks will discuss their publishing experiences, and the head of ECHO ISLANDS will speak about publishing exchanges between Korea and Taiwan.
Visitors can take part in workshops such as 'Making a Zine That Becomes a Mobile,' hand-bound notebook production, and drawing. A zine is an independently created work that freely captures an individual's interests and stories. In the outdoor courtyard, authors from 13 teams will hold readings, and visitors can experience 13 audiobook titles.
The library will also provide creators with guidance on legal deposit and support on-site applications and submissions. Legal deposit is a system for collecting and preserving library materials published or produced in Korea as part of the national documentary heritage. Under the Library Act, anyone who publishes or produces printed books must deposit them with the National Library of Korea within 30 days of the publication or production date.
The Korea Copyright Commission will offer consultations through lawyers and copyright legal advisers on the use of other people's works and publishing and usage-permission agreements.

Park Joo-ok, director of the National Library of Korea's Knowledge and Information Management Department, said, "Independent publishing is one of the freest forms of creative activity, in which an individual's thoughts, experiences, and tastes are completed as a single book."
