[Financial News] Korean Air, which mistakenly dropped off dozens of international passengers at the domestic terminal, has been fined 10 million won by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT).
According to Yonhap News Agency on the 8th, Korean Air transported passengers of flight KE2106, which departed from Tokyo International Airport (Haneda Airport) on June 7 and arrived at Gimpo International Airport, to the international terminal by dividing them among several ramp buses (buses connecting the airport terminal and the apron).
During this process, a ramp bus mistakenly dropped off 52 passengers at the domestic terminal instead of the international terminal due to a route error. Completely unaware of the situation, the passengers mingled with arriving domestic passengers from other airlines and entered the terminal; it is reported that four of them left the airport without undergoing immigration screening before returning later to complete the entry procedures.
MOLIT determined this to be a violation of security regulations and imposed a fine of 10 million won on Korean Air.
In response, Korean Air explained, "It has been confirmed that a ramp bus driver from the ground handling company mistakenly moved along a route that was not the international arrivals procedure route," adding, "As soon as we became aware of the fact, we proceeded with the necessary procedures with the relevant airport authorities to ensure that the passenger in question could undergo immigration screening."
At the same time, it emphasized, "We take this matter very seriously, are re-examining on-site operational procedures, and are thoroughly reviewing and implementing necessary measures to prevent similar inconveniences from recurring."
