"Haven’t tried a home camera yet?" LG Uplus launches entry-level ‘Homecam Lite’

[Financial News] LG Uplus announced on the 8th that it will launch Homecam Lite, an entry-level smart-home service for customers purchasing a home camera for the first time.
Homecam Lite is available for 5,500 won per month under a three-year contract. It includes a home camera, 20GB of cloud storage, and insurance coverage for fire and video-hacking damage.
LG Uplus noted that interest in home cameras, which allow users to monitor conditions inside their homes in real time, is growing as the number of dual-income households and pet owners increases. However, it also recognized that first-time buyers often hesitate because of the financial burden and concerns about the security of video data.
Accordingly, the company designed Homecam Lite around the concept of “Start light, stay secure,” targeting first-time parents and people who are new to raising pets.
The new home camera included with the product, Momca Lite, supports QHD resolution. It provides clear video during both the day and night and features detection of people, pets, movement, and sound. It also supports tracking shots that follow the movement of detected subjects.
Customers can receive real-time alerts about detected activity through the dedicated app. They can also view footage from up to four cameras simultaneously on a single screen.
The service also offers video storage. An SD card enables continuous 24-hour recording, while the included 20GB of cloud storage allows users to store selected footage separately.
Security has also been strengthened. LG Uplus applied a security chip based on Physical Unclonable Function (PUF), a physical anti-cloning technology that generates a unique encryption key for each device. The company also introduced two-step login authentication and video-data encryption to enhance the protection of video information.
Insurance coverage is also provided for fire and video-hacking damage. In the event of a fire, customers can receive compensation of up to 50 million won. For video-hacking damage, compensation is available up to 2 million won.
Another feature is that the service is available even to non-customers of LG Uplus. Customers using an internet service from another telecommunications provider can also subscribe to Homecam Lite. For installation, customers can choose between an in-home installation by a home manager and activation through delivery.
