Incheon Metropolitan City Government expands 'Geunyang Dream' to all districts, providing food and daily necessities to vulnerable groups

[Financial News Incheon = Reporter Han Gap-su] Incheon Metropolitan City Government is expanding the 'Geunyang Dream' project, designed for vulnerable groups struggling to obtain food and daily necessities due to economic hardship, to the entire Incheon Metropolitan City. The government announced on the 8th that it is expanding the 'Geunyang Dream' program, previously operated in five districts and counties, to all 11 districts and counties of Incheon Metropolitan City in order to guarantee basic food for vulnerable groups and identify and support people in welfare blind spots.
'Geunyang Dream' is a community-oriented welfare program that provides citizens who need food or daily necessities due to economic hardship or other difficulties with the necessary items immediately on-site, without complex application or eligibility verification procedures.
Following a pilot project last December, the government operated the project from May to August this year at seven locations in five districts and counties, including Ganghwa County, Yeonsu-gu, Namdong District, Bupyeong District, and Gyeyang District. In response to the positive reception from citizens, seven locations in six additional districts and counties will be added, expanding the project to a total of 14 locations in 11 districts and counties.
Starting with the Jemulpo District Food Market on the 8th, operations will proceed sequentially at the Geomdan-gu and Yeongjong District Food Markets, Michuhol-gu Food Market Branches 1 and 2, Seohae-gu Food Market, and two townships in Ongjin County. All districts and counties are scheduled to open by the end of this month. Each location will operate three times a week for at least three hours per session.
In particular, the program provides in-depth counseling along with material support to identify households in crisis at an early stage and connect them with public and private welfare services. As of July this year, more than 4,000 people had used the service, resulting in approximately 1,700 on-site consultations and 160 connections to welfare services.
Even after the expansion to all districts and counties, the government plans to continuously monitor usage and citizen demand and improve the project by reflecting feedback from the field.
Kim Min-jeong, Director of the Health and Welfare Bureau, said, "Taking the expansion to all districts and counties as an opportunity, we will build a closely woven welfare safety net so that every citizen can receive appropriate and reliable assistance in moments of crisis in their lives."
