[Financial News] Busan Metropolitan City Government announced on the 8th that it will carry out its White Roof Installation Support Project at a total of 36 sites this year to help achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 and improve the living conditions of groups vulnerable to heat waves.
A white roof is a construction method that applies a high-efficiency, heat-reflective special coating with sunlight and solar-heat reflection properties to roofs. It reduces heat accumulation on roofs and lowers indoor temperatures by 4°C to 5°C. The method is highly effective in reducing summer cooling energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, as well as mitigating the urban heat-island effect.
The project was first launched in 2019 and has been carried out steadily every year. By the end of last year, installations had been completed at a cumulative total of 168 sites, covering 9,865m2.
This year, the Busan Metropolitan City Architectural Society will handle the specialized installation work, while NOROO PAINT & COATINGS will provide all of the high-efficiency, heat-reflective special paint needed. Busan Bank will donate the project costs and related expenses.
The Korean Red Cross will provide administrative support, and Korea Productivity Center Quality Assurance will conduct verification work.
A day before the project began, officials including the head of the city's Architectural Policy Division and architects from the city architectural society visited a senior center in Dongnae District. They carried out on-site painting work and volunteer activities.
Busan Metropolitan City Government plans to complete construction at all 36 sites this year without disruption and expand the scale of the project next year.
