Lotte Mart Introduces Unique Fall Fruits, Selling Korean-Grown Calamansi and Green Figs

Lotte Mart is introducing calamansi and green figs for the fall season.
According to industry sources on the 8th, calamansi (250g) is a citrus fruit about the size of a coin. Its green peel and aroma resemble those of green tangerines, while its defining feature is its intense tartness. The juice can be easily squeezed and mixed with sparkling water or alcoholic beverages. In South Korea, calamansi has mainly been sold as juice or concentrate made with Vietnamese-grown fruit. The product is made with fresh calamansi grown at a smart farm in Seosan, South Chungcheong Province. Lotte Mart said this is the first time it has sold whole calamansi rather than a processed product.
The green figs (500g) sold alongside the calamansi are a distinctive variety that retains its green color even after fully ripening. They are smaller and easier to eat than conventional red figs, and their high sugar content delivers an especially rich version of the characteristic sweetness of figs. Lotte Mart said it is placing a protective net around each individual fruit to shield it from external impact, taking into account the variety’s thin skin, and will offer the fruit to customers in fresh condition.
Calamansi will be sold throughout the fall at five stores, including the Lotte Mart ZetaFlex Jamsil Branch. Green figs will be available at 72 stores through the end of September.
Kim Dong-hoon, head of Lotte Mart and Super’s fruit team, said, "To mark the start of the fall fruit season, we have prepared unique seasonal products that can broaden customers’ choices." He added, "We plan to continue working with producers in various regions to expand our differentiated fruit lineup."
