According to the UNICEF Korean Committee on the 8th, Secretary-General Heo, who took office on that day, will cooperate with UNICEF headquarters and oversee major projects and organizational operations, including fundraising, advocacy for children's rights, public relations, and partnerships.
Secretary General Heo graduated from Ewha Womans University with a degree in English Language and Literature and received a Master's degree in Public Administration from Yonsei University's Graduate School of International Studies. While serving as an Executive Vice President at Kyobo Life Insurance, she gained experience in planning, business-to-business (B2B), and communication.
As the founding president of the International Women's Forum Korea (IWF Korea), she led exchanges between women leaders at home and abroad. She also carried out activities for the growth of women and youth and social contribution at the German Chamber of Commerce in Korea, Women in Innovation, and the Seoul Scholarship Foundation.
In 2006, she received a commendation from the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance and Economy for her contributions to the development of external economic cooperation. In 2020, she won the 'Woman Leader of the Year' award at the Asia Insurance Industry Awards in Singapore. This year, she was selected for the U.S. Conference Board's 'Women Who Inspire and Elevate'.
The committee cited management expertise, organizational operational capabilities, and a global network as the reasons for the appointment. Secretary-General Heo stated that he would spread UNICEF's values and vision throughout society, saying, "I will do my best to ensure that more people can join in the change for the rights and happiness of children."
