[Financial News] JETEMA is embarking on the development of AI-powered human collagen materials and high-grade medical devices utilizing them.
JETEMA announced on the 8th that it has been finally selected for the '2026 2nd Biohealth Research and Development Project' organized by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE).
This project aims to develop a manufacturing process for medium-to-high molecular weight medical human collagen and a Class 4 medical device based on AI sequence design and process modeling. The research period is approximately five years, from July 2026 to December 2030, and the total project scale is KRW 8.12 billion.
Human collagen is a biomaterial that can be utilized for tissue regeneration and medical materials based on its compatibility with human tissues. Through this research, JETEMA plans to expand its business scope from its existing aesthetics business to the medical device sector.
This project is led by CutisBio, with Daewoong Bio Inc., JETEMA, and Inha University participating as co-research institutions. The research team will oversee the entire process, starting with human collagen sequence design and manufacturing process development and extending to medical device development, nonclinical trials, and regulatory approval.
The key is to utilize AI technology to design the sequence of medium-to-high molecular weight human collagen that can be used as a medical material and to model the manufacturing process. After developing a Class 4 medical device based on the developed material, the team will verify its commercialization potential through nonclinical trials and regulatory approval.
JETEMA is responsible for the development and regulatory approval of human collagen-based Class 4 medical devices. It plans to lead Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) nonclinical trials and submit an application to the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety for approval of the medical device clinical trial plan.
"With the selection of this project, we will fully launch our entry into the new medical device business based on human collagen," a JETEMA official said. "We will leverage our existing capabilities in medical device development and regulatory approval to pursue the development of related products and the expansion of our pipeline."
