"Suwon Zombie Drug" Suspect Released After Negative Urine Test, but Methamphetamine Found at Home

[Financial News] An arrest warrant has been sought for a man in his 30s suspected in the "Suwon zombie drug" case.
According to News 1 on the 7th, the Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency said at a press briefing that day, "On the 4th, we requested an arrest warrant for suspect A on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act. The date for the suspect's pretrial detention hearing has not yet been set, but we plan to conduct additional investigations and refer the case for prosecution once a decision is issued."
At around 12:30 p.m. on June 21, suspect A was standing near a bus stop in an apartment complex in Gwonseon District, Suwon, with his back hunched and both arms hanging down.
A witness who found his behavior suspicious filmed him and posted the video on social media. Some online users said his appearance reminded them of a "zombie" under the influence of drugs.
After investigating, police located and urgently arrested suspect A on the 23rd of the same month. A preliminary drug test was positive for methamphetamine, but he was released after a subsequent urine test came back negative.
Police later conducted a search and seizure and found methamphetamine in a plastic zipper bag at A's home. A hair test also confirmed a positive result for drugs. Based on these findings, police requested an arrest warrant for A.
Police confirmed that A had a prior record for a similar offense, having already been investigated for a drug-related matter at another police station before this incident.
He reportedly told police, "I am taking psychiatric medication that was formally prescribed to me," and, "I did not use methamphetamine." He also said the methamphetamine found at his home was from a previous drug case in which he had been investigated, but police had failed to seize it at the time.
A police official said, "We are continuing to investigate to determine whether the drug was used, as well as when and where it may have been administered. We are examining the allegations against the suspect broadly."
