【Financial News Paris, France = Reporter Seong Seok-woo】Cheong Wa Dae said, regarding the controversies that have recently emerged surrounding Kim Seung-won, nominee for minister of the Ministry of Justice, and Yong Hye-in, nominee for minister of the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, "They were nominated through the personnel system under the responsibility of the chair of the personnel committee, so they must undergo confirmation hearings."
A Cheong Wa Dae official told reporters on the 7th (local time), "It is difficult for Cheong Wa Dae to discuss the specific personnel vetting process," and made the statement.
Kim Seung-won continues to face controversy over his eligibility in connection with allegations that he solicited favors regarding clinical trials for a new COVID-19 drug, while Yong Hye-in faces controversy over concurrently serving as a minister and a proportional-representation lawmaker.
The official added, "While we are establishing and strengthening the personnel vetting system so that it meets the public's expectations, we understand that the confirmation hearing system itself serves as a public vetting process for nominees."
However, regarding media reports that the Democratic Party of Korea leadership had conveyed to Cheong Wa Dae an opinion that Yong Hye-in was unsuitable for the position, the official explained, "Nothing has been specifically confirmed."
