President Lee Nominates Kim Ji-yong as First Head of Serious Crime Investigation Agency: Cheong Wa Dae Says He Is "The Right Person to Ensure a Swift Launch"

【Financial News, Paris, France—Reporter Seong Seok-woo】President Lee Jae Myung has nominated Kim Ji-yong, whom Minister Yun Ho-jung recommended for appointment, as the first head of the Serious Crime Investigation Agency and plans to request a parliamentary confirmation hearing.
Kang Yoo-jung, senior spokesperson for Cheong Wa Dae, said on the 7th local time, "We believe candidate Kim Ji-yong is the right person to quickly establish the Serious Crime Investigation Agency, which is scheduled to launch on October 1, as an expert in investigative law."
She added, "Under the new criminal justice system, which separates investigations from prosecution, candidate Kim is expected to successfully lead the Serious Crime Investigation Agency based on his investigative experience and organizational management capabilities."
Earlier, Minister Yun Ho-jung recommended Kim Ji-yong, a former prosecutor, as the first candidate to head the Serious Crime Investigation Agency, explaining, "Based on the experience and capabilities he has built up over the years, I expect him to create a Serious Crime Investigation Agency that places the protection of citizens’ human rights above all else."
Candidate Kim began his career as a prosecutor at the Daejeon District Prosecutors’ Office and went on to serve as head of the special investigations division at the Daegu District Prosecutors’ Office, head of the Trial Division 2 at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office, director of Inspection Division 1 at the Supreme Prosecutors’ Office of the Republic of Korea (SPO), chief prosecutor of the Chuncheon District Prosecutors’ Office, head of the Criminal Affairs Department at the SPO, and deputy chief prosecutor at the Gwangju High Prosecutors’ Office. He currently serves as managing partner at Apex Law Firm.
Candidate Kim will be formally appointed by President Lee after undergoing a parliamentary confirmation hearing.
