[Financial News] Joon Park of g.o.d directly addressed concerns about his health after viewers sent messages worrying about his gaunt appearance in a recently released video. He explained that he filmed it immediately after returning from the United States, having barely slept, and that recovering from fatigue takes longer as people age.
On the 5th, Joon Park said through his personal social media account that he had received messages such as “Are you sick?”, “You look so tired,” and “You suddenly look so thin” after a video from the channel “Wassup Man” was released.
Regarding the filming, Joon Park said, “I had just returned from the United States a month ago and filmed it right away without getting any sleep, so I was in really bad shape.” He added, “Wassup Man is filmed as-is, without things like lighting,” explaining that the filming setup, with windows behind and beside him, also made his condition look more noticeable.
He added, “When I was younger, even if I took a 12- or 20-hour flight, I would look completely fine again after a few hours, even without sleeping at all.” He continued, “Now that I’m almost 60, it takes longer to recover if I go a night without sleep. You have to sleep to recover.”
Fatigue Worsens When You Do Not Sleep After Long-Distance Travel
According to the Mayo Clinic, jet lag disorder occurs when sleep patterns are disrupted after a long-distance flight across multiple time zones. Symptoms may include daytime fatigue, a general feeling of being unwell, difficulty concentrating, and gastrointestinal problems.
If someone continues filming or working without getting enough sleep immediately after long-distance travel, fatigue can affect their facial appearance, speech, and concentration. In particular, after staying up all night, the area around the eyes may look sunken, the skin may appear dry, and people may find it easier to feel less energetic than usual.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) also advises that sleep deprivation during travel can worsen jet lag symptoms. Before and after a long-distance flight, it can help to adjust sleep schedules to the destination’s time zone, drink plenty of fluids, and avoid excessive alcohol consumption.
A Gaunt Appearance Alone Cannot Confirm an Illness
Although lack of sleep or fatigue can make the face look different, it is difficult to determine a specific illness based on appearance alone. However, if there has been sudden, actual weight loss or symptoms such as loss of appetite, persistent fatigue, fever, night sweats, chest pain, or shortness of breath, the cause should be checked by a medical professional.
The Mayo Clinic says adults generally need seven to nine hours of sleep. Consistently sleeping less than seven hours may be associated with weight gain, diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, and depression.
Addressing speculation about his health, Joon Park said, “Thank you for worrying about me, and I’m also grateful for the critical comments because they show that you care about me.” He added, “But I’m fine. Please stop worrying about me and take good care of yourselves.”
Meanwhile, Joon Park was born in 1969. He married Kim Yu-jin, who is 14 years younger, in 2015, and they have one daughter.
