China Makes Preliminary Anti-Dumping Determination on Japanese Dichlorosilane for Semiconductor Manufacturing

[Financial News] China has decided to impose provisional anti-dumping measures on Dichlorosilane (DCS), a chemical used in semiconductor manufacturing and imported from Japan.
MOFCOM announced on its website on the 7th that it would begin provisional anti-dumping measures on the 8th, stating, "The investigating authority has preliminarily determined that dumping exists in the products under investigation imported from Japan, that the domestic Dichlorosilane industry has suffered material injury, and that there is a causal relationship between the dumping and the material injury."
Dichlorosilane is a key chemical used in semiconductor manufacturing. MOFCOM explained that it is widely used in logic, memory and analog chips, and can also be used to synthesize silicon-based precursors and polysilazanes.
China will apply tariffs of 80.8% to 99.2% to Dichlorosilane imported from Japan.
Until a final determination is made, Chinese importers must pay deposits to Chinese customs based on the tariff rate applicable to each exporting company.
Earlier, on January 7 this year, MOFCOM launched an anti-dumping investigation into Dichlorosilane imported from Japan.
China's anti-dumping investigation was launched as Beijing was taking retaliatory measures against Japan, including urging people to refrain from traveling to Japan and banning imports of Japanese seafood, in response to Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's remarks in November last year suggesting intervention in the event of a Taiwan contingency.
The day before launching its anti-dumping investigation into Dichlorosilane, China also announced export controls targeting Japan on dual-use items, which can be used for both military and civilian purposes.
