Lee and Macron Announce 1.6 Trillion Won Investment in Korean and French Video Industries Over Five Years

Cheong Wa Dae Chief Spokesperson Kang Yoo-jung said in a written briefing that President Lee will attend the 'Lumière Summit' in Saint-Paul-de-Vence, France, with around 200 participants, including culture ministers and international organization officials from around the world, film and video industry experts, and creators such as directors and actors. He will present an agenda for responding to changes in the film and video industry environment.
The two leaders will announce the 'Global Film and Video Industry Investment Cooperation Initiative,' under which each country will invest 500 million euros, or approximately 800 billion won, in the video industry over five years starting in 2027.
President Lee will then meet with Korean directors and actors invited to the Lumière Summit. The meeting will be attended by directors Lee Chang-dong and July Jung, actors Sul Kyung-gu, Jeon Do-yeon, and Kim Do-yeon, and KIMMINGEE, Netflix's vice president overseeing content in the Asia-Pacific region excluding India. President Lee is expected to hear about the success factors behind K-content and various views on the industry's needs.
After the meeting, President Lee Jae Myung and First Lady Kim Hye-kyung will attend an official luncheon with the Macron couple and participants in the Lumière Summit. President Lee is expected to pay tribute to those working to advance the film and video industries and deliver a message calling for participants from diverse cultural backgrounds to work together to illuminate the future of the video industry.
Following the official luncheon, President Lee will chair a roundtable on film and video. Participants will discuss practical ways for regional and global stakeholders to enrich the global cultural industry through sustainable mutual growth. Representatives from CJ ENM, NAVER, Netflix, the Motion Picture Association (MPA), and Mediawan will attend the roundtable.
President Lee will then discuss ways to strengthen cooperation between the Korean and U.S. video industries, including K-content production, with representatives of major studios and platforms such as Netflix, Disney, Sony, and NBCUniversal, which lead the global box office and streaming markets.
President Lee is expected to express his gratitude for MPA member companies investing more than 1 trillion won annually in K-content and call for continued investment alongside the government's full support.
