Iran Warns South Korea in Korean: “Serious Consequences” if It Joins U.S. Attacks on Iran

[Financial News] Iran warned South Korea in Korean not to join U.S. military action against Iran in connection with the Republic of Korea government’s consideration of ways to support freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
Esmail Baghaei, spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, posted a message in Korean on X (formerly Twitter) on the 7th (local time), stating that the Republic of Korea could face “serious consequences” if it assumes a military role in the Strait of Hormuz.
It is unusual that Baghaei wrote the warning targeting the Republic of Korea directly in Korean. The move is interpreted as an attempt to deliver Iran’s strong warning over the Republic of Korea government’s consideration of ways to contribute to efforts in the Strait of Hormuz directly to Korean readers.
Baghaei said, “The relationship between Iran and the Republic of Korea has a history spanning more than 64 years, and bilateral ties have consistently developed on the basis of mutual respect. Iran attaches great importance to its friendly relations with the Republic of Korea.”
He continued, “However, the Iranian people are currently defending themselves against the aggressive actions of the United States,” adding, “As they firmly respond to U.S. war crimes against women and children, any other country’s military presence or participation in operations in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz can only be regarded as direct support for the perpetrators of the aggression and will lead to serious consequences.”
He warned, “No sovereign and responsible country should yield to U.S. pressure and threats and participate in conspiring in acts of aggression and heinous crimes against the great Iranian people.”
The warning came after Cheong Wa Dae said on the 4th that it was considering ways to contribute to international efforts to ensure freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. Cheong Wa Dae is reviewing various options, including military measures, but has not yet decided on a specific troop deployment or participation.
