[Financial News] As autumn arrives, every corner of Seoul is turning into a festival venue for culture and the arts. District offices are preparing large-scale music festivals spanning classical music and K-pop, along with cultural and arts events featuring performances and exhibitions. They are also rolling out a series of events that highlight the character of local areas, including alley commercial districts, the Han River and Anyangcheon. With hands-on programs for young people and children as well as Chuseok markets, Seoul will offer a wide range of activities this weekend.
According to Seocho District on the 17th, the '2026 Seoripul Music Festival' will be held on the 19th and 20th along an approximately 900-meter stretch of Banpo-daero from Seocho Station to the Seocho 3-dong intersection. Launched in 2015, it is Seocho District's signature autumn music festival, attracting a cumulative 1.34 million visitors through last year.
This year's festival will feature performances in a range of genres, from classical music and jazz to K-pop. A string quartet composed of members of the Los Angeles Philharmonic (LA Phil) will take the stage, followed by separate 'Night of Classical Music' and 'Night of K-pop' programs. Family-friendly activities will also be available, including 'The World's Largest Sketchbook,' where participants draw on a giant sheet spread across the road, outdoor yoga and kids' classical music.
Guro District will host the '2026 Guro G Festival' around Anyangcheon on the 19th and 20th. The Guro Garden Festa, French Culture Festival and Anyangcheon Light Festival will also begin on the 18th, one day before the main event. Visitors can enjoy drone racing, robot soccer, artificial intelligence (AI) and robot experiences, garden activities and various performances. Singers Lee Jae-hoon and Kim Hyun-jung will perform on the 19th, while Park Seo-jin, Jinseong, Ahn Seong-hoon and Maijin will take the stage on the 20th. The Anyangcheon Light Festival will continue through the 30th.
Alley commercial districts are also being transformed into autumn festival venues. Gwangjin District will present a series of alley festivals on the 18th and 19th at the Jayang 15th Street and Jayangbeonyeong-ro alley-type shopping districts. On the 18th, Jayang 15th Street will host the '15 Night Alley Festival,' featuring food from local stores, a residents' singing contest, performances by invited singers and street performances. On the 19th, Jayangbeonyeong-ro will hold the 'Jayang Galbi Alley Outdoor Dining Festival,' where visitors can enjoy local food and performances.
Gangseo District will kick off the '2026 Magok Art Street Local Brand Festival' on the 19th along Magok Art Street. Set in the commercial district stretching from Exit 3 of Magok Station to Space K Seoul, the festival combines sales and activity booths run by local merchants with an exhibition of works by young artists. Visitors can view works by 10 young artists and take part in activities such as making gardens in glass bottles. K-pop, fusion Korean traditional music and hip-hop performances will also be held.
Festivals for young people and children will also take place throughout the city. To mark Youth Day, Gangdong District will host the '2026 Gangdong Youth Festival' on the 19th around Cheonho Rodeo Street. Youth policy consultations, cultural and arts performances, hands-on activities and exhibitions will be offered at four hubs, including Seoul Youth Center Gangdong and the surrounding Cheonho Rodeo Street area.
On the same day, Amsa History Park will host the children's and youth festival 'Gangdong Play Festival.' Local residents will join children and teenagers in seven activities, including an environment-themed escape room, traditional games, curling and hangung, all planned by children and teenagers themselves. On the 20th, the '2026 Gangdong Prehistoric Marathon' will be held at the Archaeological Site in Amsa-dong, Seoul, with approximately 2,800 participants.
Seongbuk and Songpa districts will offer performances and exhibitions suited to the atmosphere of autumn. At Simujang House of 'Manhae' Han Yong-un in Seongbuk-dong, the arts festival 'Remember Manhae—Gireun Geotdeul's Song,' honoring Manhae Han Yong-un, will be held on the 19th. To mark the centennial of the publication of 'The Silence of Love,' the program will feature salpuri and taepyeongmu performances, followed by an original changgeuk production about a meeting between Han Yong-un in the past and the present. Seongbuk Cultural Foundation will also hold a special exhibition through the 2nd of next month at Gallery Banditra, featuring photographs and writings about the lives and workspaces of 27 artists.
At the Songpa Cultural Arts Center, 'Café Verdi Next to Puccini Bar,' an opera drama weaving 11 signature arias by Verdi and Puccini into a single story, will be staged on the 19th. Combining vocal performances with acting and narration, the production is designed to be accessible even to audiences unfamiliar with opera.
There will also be an event revisiting the memories of neighborhoods disappearing through redevelopment. In Hannam-dong, Yongsan District, the 'Bye! Hannam, Hi! Hannam' event will run through the 18th. Its programs include 'Hannam, Walking Through Memory,' a photographic record of old alleys and residents' lives that are disappearing due to redevelopment, including the Hannam District 3 Redevelopment Zone. Visitors can also enjoy retro-themed activities featuring vintage school uniforms, film photographs, gonggi and ttakji flipping.
Ahead of Chuseok, a market offering relief from rising grocery costs will also be held. Seodaemun District will host the '2026 Chuseok Direct-Sales Market' on the 18th and 19th around Hongje Waterfall Plaza and the terrace at Cafe Pokpo. Fifty-seven businesses from 33 cities and counties nationwide will participate, selling approximately 300 items, including Hanwoo beef, apples and pears, dried yellow croaker and deodeok. Through direct sales from production areas, some items will be offered at prices up to 40% lower than those in regular markets.
