The discount program was introduced based on the results of a public consultation on reducing usage fees for forest welfare facilities, conducted through the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission’s National Idea Box last February. After a survey involving 758 participants confirmed the need to support military personnel, police officers and firefighters in South Korea, the institute established a pilot discount program for the month of October.
Those eligible for the discount are military personnel, police officers and firefighters. They can receive the discount on site by presenting documents verifying their identity or employment status, such as a military identification card or civil servant ID.
The discount will be available from October 1 through 31 at national forest welfare facilities offering lodging nationwide. The discount rate is 30% on weekdays and 10% on weekends.
The eligible facilities comprise 10 locations, including two national forest therapy centers and eight national forest activity centers: National Forest Therapy Center; National Jinan Highland Forest Therapy Center; Hoengseong National SoopCheWon; National Center for Forest Activities, Chilgok; National Center for Forest Activities, Jangseong; National Center for Forest Activities, Cheongdo; National Center for Forest Activities, Daejeon; National Center for Forest Activities, Chuncheon; National Center for Forest Education, Naju; and National Center for Forest Activities, Gimhae.
Reservations for forest welfare facilities can be made through the Soop e-rang website from 9 a.m. on the 15th of each month for stays in the following month. Reservations for October stays will open at 9 a.m. on the 15th of this month.
Jeong Yeon-guk, acting president of the Korea Forest Welfare Institute, said, "We express our gratitude to all the military personnel, police officers and firefighters who have devoted themselves in their respective positions to protecting the lives and safety of the public." He added, "I hope you will have time to fully rest and recharge in the forest throughout October."
