【Financial News Ulsan=Reporter Choi Su-sang】 Ulsan civic groups and labor organizations criticized the government's consideration of deploying troops to the United States-Iran war as "joining Donald Trump's war of aggression and pursuing subservient diplomacy," and called for it to be halted immediately.
The Ulsan Alliance for Independent Reunification and Peace and Ulsan Beyond Peace held a press conference at the press center of Ulsan City Hall on the 7th, making these points and condemning the government.
The groups said, "Trying once again to mobilize South Korean troops for a war of aggression by yielding to unjust pressure from the United States while abandoning the national interest and the safety of the people is a subservient course of action."
The groups criticized the situation, saying, "The Strait of Hormuz is currently at the center of a war marked by extremely heightened military clashes and tensions," and, "The United States is responsible for turning the Strait of Hormuz, through which ships once passed peacefully, into a danger zone for military conflict."
They stressed, "Deploying our troops to the Strait of Hormuz to support the U.S. military's war effort is no different from joining Donald Trump's unjustified war of aggression and willingly sacrificing the lives of our young people."
The Ulsan Regional Headquarters of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions also issued a statement on the 4th, warning, "Deploying South Korean troops to the Strait of Hormuz is a dangerously reckless act that would draw the Korean Peninsula into a war atmosphere."
The Ulsan Regional Headquarters of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions said, "Donald Trump of the United States is seeking to contain competitors such as China and Russia by using war to seize control of oil, a vital resource for the global economy," and added, "In this situation, the Lee Jae Myung government's deployment of South Korean troops could pull the Korean Peninsula into disputes with the United States' rival powers."
The Ulsan Regional Headquarters of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions emphasized, "We must not take any action that would involve us in a war between the United States and the Middle East, and the Lee Jae Myung government must immediately halt its attempt to deploy troops for Donald Trump's war gamble."
