Kim Dae-young Takes Office as 5th President of Jeju Institute for Lifelong Education and Scholarship, to Oversee Lifelong Education, Scholarships and Talent Development

【Financial News Jeju = Reporter Jung Yong-bok】 Kim Dae-young, former editorial director of Jeju Ilbo, has taken office as the fifth president of the Jeju Institute for Lifelong Education and Scholarship. He will lead Jeju’s lifelong education, scholarship and talent-development programs for two years through September 6, 2028.
Wi Seong-gon, governor of Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, presented an appointment certificate to the newly appointed president, Kim Dae-young, at Tamra Hall of the Jeju Special Self-Governing Provincial Office on the morning of the 7th. Kim applied through an open recruitment process in July and was recommended as a candidate after review by the executive recommendation committee. He was formally appointed that day after the institute’s board selected him and the relevant agencies approved the appointment.
Born in 1965, Kim earned a master’s degree in public administration from Chung-Ang University (CAU). He served as head of the political affairs desk at Jeju Ilbo before becoming editor-in-chief and later editorial director.
The Jeju Institute for Lifelong Education and Scholarship is responsible for expanding residents’ access to lifelong learning, identifying and developing local talent, and administering scholarship programs. Upon taking office, Kim will work to improve access to lifelong education, develop programs that reflect changing educational needs, and oversee scholarship and talent-development initiatives.
Key challenges for the new president include responding to changes in the educational environment brought about by the digital transformation and addressing lifelong-learning needs across generations and social groups. He is also expected to turn lifelong-education programs and local talent-development initiatives into tangible results that residents can experience in their daily lives.
Wi Seong-gon said, "In this era of sweeping digital transformation, please play a pivotal role in revitalizing lifelong education that encompasses every stage of residents’ lives and in developing local talent that will lead Jeju’s future."
Kim Dae-young said, "I will create a lifelong-learning environment where everyone in Jeju can enjoy opportunities to learn, while pursuing lifelong-education and scholarship programs that residents can experience firsthand and identifying and developing local talent."
