Yong Hye-in's Husband Elected to Basic Income Party Supreme Council; Former Aide Oh Jun-ho Becomes Party Leader

[Financial News] Park Ki-hong, deputy secretary-general for strategic planning of the Basic Income Party and spouse of Basic Income Party lawmaker Yong Hye-in, who has been nominated as minister of the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, was elected to the party's Supreme Council.
According to Yonhap News and other outlets on the 7th, the Basic Income Party announced that it had elected Oh Jun-ho, the party's former co-leader who ran unopposed, as its new leader in the second-half nationwide simultaneous party-official election.
Oh was elected with a final vote share of 93.89%—1,276 votes from party members with voting rights and 173 votes from delegates. He served as co-leader of the party with Yong Hye-in from 2022 to 2024 and previously worked as an aide in Yong Hye-in's parliamentary office. He also ran as the Basic Income Party's presidential candidate in the 20th presidential election and currently heads the Basic Income Policy Research Institute, the party's policy research institute.
In the Supreme Council election, party spokesperson Noh Seo-young ranked first with a final vote share of 35.16%. Incumbent Supreme Council member Shin Ji-hye and Deputy Secretary-General for Strategic Planning Park Ki-hong were elected in second and third place, with 28.50% and 20.85%, respectively. Park, the nominee's husband, will therefore serve on the party's Supreme Council.
At the Supreme Council meeting held that day, Oh firmly denied allegations raised by some that an unofficial organization existed, saying, "I clearly state that this is completely untrue."
He added, "If the People Power Party or some media outlets repeatedly and maliciously insult the party's democratic order and spread fake news, we will respond through legal means."
Oh also said, "Yong Hye-in, the Basic Income Party, and I will work together to ensure that the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family under the Lee Jae Myung administration delivers results." He added, "We will do our utmost to ensure that the Lee Jae Myung administration's gender-equality policies succeed more than those of any previous administration."
Meanwhile, the Basic Income Party held its second-half 2026 nationwide simultaneous party-official election from the 3rd to the 6th to choose its new leadership. The new leadership's term began that day.
