ChildFund Korea, a specialized child welfare organization, said on the 7th that the project is being jointly carried out by Gimcheon-si, Korea Expressway Corporation, Food Factory and Kakao. All sales proceeds, along with a separate mutual-growth fund, will be used to provide economic and emotional support to vulnerable children in the Gimcheon area.
The five organizations will divide responsibilities throughout the process, from procurement to processing, sales and donations, according to their respective expertise. The public corporation will secure funding, the manufacturing company will process the products, and the platform company will provide sales channels. ChildFund Korea, the nonprofit organization, will manage the distribution of donations.
The project can be viewed as a circular support model that connects agricultural procurement and commercialization with the donation of sales proceeds. It reduces food waste while linking sales channels for local agricultural products with support for vulnerable children.
The fruit cups will be sold on a limited basis through Kakao Makers’ mutual-growth project “Jega Beochi” until the prepared supply runs out. Buyers will receive a “Chunsik” magnet.
Kakao plans to donate all sales proceeds, along with an additional mutual-growth fund, to ChildFund Korea. ChildFund Korea plans to use the funds to provide economic and emotional support to vulnerable children in the Gimcheon area.
A ChildFund Korea official said, “It is meaningful that, based on the expertise of the participating organizations, including Gimcheon-si, Korea Expressway Corporation, Food Factory and Kakao, we have been able to create a mutually beneficial structure that supports both local farms and vulnerable children.” The official added that the organization would continue pursuing various forms of cooperation.
