Krafton Inc. to Invest an Additional $250 Million in India Over 3–4 Years, Expanding into AI and Robotics

【New Delhi, India—Correspondent Pragya Awasthi】Krafton Inc., a gaming company, plans to invest an additional $250 million (approximately 336.4 billion won) in India over the next three to four years to develop the country into a global gaming and technology hub. The company aims to strengthen its position in the Indian market by expanding beyond gaming into emerging technology fields such as artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, and deep tech.
According to local media reports on the 7th, Krafton Inc. Chairman Chang Byung-gyu met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Damodardas Modi in New Delhi on the 5th to discuss expanding cooperation between South Korea and India in gaming, technology, and emerging industries. Through the investment plan, Krafton Inc. intends to help develop India into a global hub for gaming, innovation, and advanced technology.
Krafton Inc.’s Indian subsidiary said the additional investment would be used to support the local gaming ecosystem, Indian intellectual property (IP), and startup development. As a result, Krafton Inc.’s total planned investment in India will exceed $500 million (6,729 billion won).
The company explained that the investment direction is also aligned with the Modi government’s policy of “Make in India, Make for India, and Make for the World.” Chang Byung-gyu said, "India is a market of tremendous opportunity, with outstanding talent in gaming, technology, and innovation," adding, "Continued investment demonstrates our long-term confidence in the Indian market and our commitment to contributing to India’s digital economy." He also stated that the company would work with Indian creators, developers, and entrepreneurs to develop content and technology for global markets.
Krafton Inc. has invested more than $250 million in India since 2021. Separately, in December 2025, it established a $670 million (approximately 902 billion won) growth fund with NAVER and Mirae Asset Financial Group to invest in Indian companies. Krafton Inc. agreed to contribute approximately $137 million (approximately 184.4 billion won) during the fund’s initial stage.
The centerpiece of Krafton Inc.’s Indian business is BATTLEGROUNDS MOBILE INDIA (BGMI). A localized version of PUBG Mobile, BGMI has surpassed 260 million cumulative downloads. Krafton Inc. is also investing in local startups and game studios beyond gaming operations. It has supported approximately 18 Indian companies, including Nodwin Gaming, LOCO, Pratilipi, KukuFM, and One Impression. In 2025, it acquired Pune-based game developer Nautilus Mobile in Maharashtra state. Through the acquisition of Nautilus Mobile, the developer of the Real Cricket series, Krafton Inc. is also working to strengthen local game development capabilities and foster its own IP. The company is expanding talent development efforts as well. Krafton Inc. recently launched the industry-academia partnership program KIGI Academy to train talent in game development and digital content production.
