[Financial News] TVING is accepting compensation applications from members affected by a "large-scale personal information leak." Eligible members must apply for compensation themselves, while former members must go through a re-registration process.
TVING said it would accept compensation applications from members affected by the personal information leak from 10 a.m. on the 7th until 11:59 p.m. on the 30th. Compensation will be provided sequentially starting at 10 a.m. on the 6th of next month.
Members can check whether they are eligible for compensation on the TVING website and mobile app. After logging in, users can access the compensation application page through the "MY" menu, check their eligibility, complete identity verification, and submit an application. Applications through the customer service center will not be accepted.
Eligible members will receive one year of hacking and phishing insurance. The policy covers losses of up to 3 million won per person resulting not only from cyber financial fraud but also from online shopping mall scams and person-to-person transaction fraud.
Current TVING members will receive premium-level viewing features for three months without having to apply separately. These features include viewing in up to 4K quality, 400 content downloads, and simultaneous viewing on up to four devices.
Members who already use a premium pass and therefore cannot receive the viewing-environment upgrade will instead receive an additional 50 TVING points. The points are worth 5,000 won and can be used to pay for individually purchased content.
For the entertainment benefit, members can choose either a one-month Wavve ad-supported Standard pass or a 5,000-won discount coupon for one of three CJ CGV combo packages.
Each account may apply for compensation only once, and the selected compensation item cannot be changed after the application is submitted. Dormant and former members are also eligible. However, former members must rejoin TVING to access the compensation application page and complete identity verification. They do not need to subscribe to a paid pass again during this process.
The compensation follows a TVING data breach that occurred in May. An investigation by a joint public-private task force led by the Ministry of Science and ICT previously confirmed that information from a total of 39.54 million accounts, counted with duplicates, had been leaked. The figure included 22.06 million active accounts, 8.5 million dormant accounts, 8.87 million canceled accounts, and 1.1 million test accounts.
