Seoul International Architecture Film Festival Continues Online Through the 20th With Free Screenings

[Financial News] The 18th Seoul International Architecture Film Festival has moved its screenings online after completing its in-person program and will continue online screenings through the 20th. Audiences can watch 14 architecture films from 12 countries for free on Naver TV.
According to the Korea Institute of Registered Architects on the 7th, the festival held in-person events, including its opening ceremony, screenings, and guest talks, from the 4th to the 6th. Online screenings are available on the “Seoul International Architecture Film Festival” channel on Naver TV.
This year’s festival, held under the slogan “101 (one-o-one),” presents films addressing public architecture and cities, spaces and communities, the environment, and architects’ philosophies. Online screenings are being offered alongside the in-person program so that audiences unable to attend the venues can watch the films without restrictions of time or place.
The opening ceremony was held on the 4th at the main auditorium of Seoul Seocho-gu Architects’ Hall. KIM JeaRok, president of the Korea Institute of Registered Architects; Lee Jin-cheol, director of architectural policy at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport; and figures from the architecture and cultural sectors, including directors Kim Su-dong and Hiro moto Oka, attended the event.
The opening film was “PROCESS: The Evolving DNA of a City, Kumamoto,” directed by Kim Su-dong. Rather than focusing on completed buildings, the film examines the concerns and choices accumulated during the development process, as well as how public architecture has changed local life and the urban environment. It received its world premiere at the festival.
In-person screenings were held on the 5th and 6th at Ewha Womans University Art House Momo. Domestic and international filmmakers, including directors Kim Su-dong and Hiro moto Oka, took part in five guest talks and shared the background of their productions and the meaning of the spaces depicted in their works with the audience.
At the Host Architect Forum, participants discussed changes in accommodation facilities under the theme “Stay—Spaces That Have Become Destinations, Not Just Backdrops to a Journey.” Shim Young-gyu, an architectural producer at Project Day, moderated the session. Lee Hyo-sang, head of the Hotel & Resort Group at Gansam; Noh Kyung Rok, co-CEO of Z-Lab; and Kim Seok-hoon, CEO of Studio Eccentric, also participated.
The participants examined the trend of accommodation spaces evolving beyond backdrops for travel into destinations, brands, and content. Drawing on real-world examples, they discussed the possibilities of planning, designing, and operating such spaces, as well as hospitality design.
KIM YongKak, chair of the executive committee, said, “The Seoul International Architecture Film Festival is a venue for cultural communication where architecture is shared with citizens through the more familiar language of film.” He added, “I hope the interest in and conversations about architecture shared offline will reach even more audiences through the online screenings.”
