A weekly policy meeting is being held at Tamra Hall in the Jeju Provincial Government on the 7th. Jeju Province has decided to strengthen joint public-private safety activities in September and connect demand from the National Sports Festival for the Disabled and Chuseok to local consumption, while simultaneously responding to the second phase of public institution relocation and the bid to host the 2028 G20 Summit in Jeju. [Financial News Jeju = Reporter Jeong Yong-bok] Jeju is operating September as the "Month of All-out Public-Private Safety Jeju" to strengthen on-site safety management ahead of the National Sports Festival for the Disabled and Chuseok. It is also raising the payment limit for Tamnajeon cashback to 1 million won per month to connect demand from the games and holidays to consumption in local commercial districts, while simultaneously responding to the second phase of public institution relocation and the bid to host the 2028 G20 Summit.
According to Jeju Special Self-Governing Province on the 7th, Jeju Governor Wi Seong-gon presided over the weekly policy meeting at Tamra Hall in the provincial office this morning and reviewed major pending issues such as safety measures, boosting consumption, preparations for the National Sports Festival for the Disabled, the relocation of public institutions, and hosting the G20 Summit.
The safety measures focused on coordinating on-site responses between private organizations and the administration. Jeju Province is strengthening on-site patrols in collaboration with voluntary crime prevention groups, Volunteer Fire Brigades, local autonomous disaster prevention teams, and resident self-governing police forces to identify and improve risk factors in residential areas. Departmental safety inspections are also being expanded to coincide with the period of increased visitor traffic ahead of the National Sports Festival for the Disabled and Chuseok.
Governor Wi Seong-gon said, "All departments must join forces in safety management to create a Jeju where both residents and tourists can feel safe."
Preparations for the 46th National Sports Festival for the Disabled, to be held from the 11th to the 16th, were also reviewed again. As this is the first time the event is being held in Jeju, the plan is to examine movement routes to the stadiums, facilities, transportation, and medical and safety responses right up until the event.
Governor Wi also called on public officials to attend and cheer at the games. The intention is to actively inform residents of the matches and create a welcoming environment that the athletes and visitors can truly experience.
Connecting large-scale visitor demand to local consumption was also presented as a major task. From the 5th to October 31st, Jeju Province raised the monthly payment limit eligible for the 10% cashback on Tamnajeon from 700,000 won to 1 million won. Users can receive cashback benefits of up to 100,000 won per month and up to 200,000 won over two months.
Remarks on safety management and measures for the people's livelihood economy are being made at the weekly policy meeting held at Tamra Hall of the Jeju Provincial Government on the 7th. Jeju Governor Wi Seong-gon ordered departmental responses to strengthen joint public-private safety activities and ensure that the demand from visitors during the National Sports Festival for the Disabled and Chuseok translates into consumption in local commercial districts. Governor Wi emphasized, "The reason for raising the limit for Tamnajeon is to revitalize consumption," adding, "Each department must also devise measures to boost consumption linked to their respective areas of responsibility so that the spending of visitors to Jeju leads to increased sales for local businesses and small merchants."
Along with responses regarding safety and public livelihoods, mid-to-long-term pending issues for attracting public institutions were also brought to the meeting table. Jeju Province is strengthening its response to each institution hoping to be attracted to Jeju in line with the government's second schedule for the relocation of public institutions. The province is responding by concretizing the rationale for each institution's relocation to Jeju and increasing the potential for linking provincial administration issues with local industries.
The bid to host the 2028 G20 Summit in Jeju will also be pursued as a joint task of the provincial administration. It was decided to consolidate capabilities related to international events, industry, tourism, transportation, and safety, which are currently scattered across various departments, in order to concretize the rationale for the bid and implementation plans.
Measures to increase the utilization of facilities established with public funds will also be reviewed. Governor Wi ordered each department to identify facilities that received subsidies but remain underutilized, and to find ways to utilize them to meet local needs. The possibility of converting them into care facilities or youth activity spaces will be examined, and institutional improvements will be reviewed if current regulations hinder such utilization.
Discussions were held on preventing arrears in construction payments and wages at construction sites ahead of Chuseok, a pilot project for responsible taxis in towns and villages, and preparations for the opening of the tentatively named Odeungbong Music Hall. It was also decided to strengthen information provision, with relevant departments directly explaining the background and details of policies to the residents.
Governor Wi stated, "We must revitalize the people's livelihood economy by boosting consumption while protecting the safety of the residents," and added, "Please carefully oversee the pending issues of each department so that policies needed on the ground lead to tangible results."
