[Financial News] Go Young-wook (48), a former member of the group Roo'Ra who was expelled from the entertainment industry after serving a prison sentence for sexual offenses against minors, is facing public backlash after repeatedly posting his ordinary daily life on social media. As criticism poured in, he expressed his dissatisfaction by asking, "Do I have to go run on a deserted island?" However, the public's reaction appears to be turning from coldness into public outrage.
On the 6th, Go Young-wook posted a video of himself running on an outdoor road on his social media, along with the caption, "After the heatwave passed, I ran alone in a secluded place for the first time in a while, contemplating without bothering anyone, and just took a picture of myself reflected in the mirror and uploaded it," adding, "Do I have to go run on a deserted island?"
Earlier, on the 5th, Go Young-wook went out wearing a sleeveless top and covering his face with a hat and mask, and posted a photo taken in front of a road reflector. The day before, after going grocery shopping by bicycle, he shared a meal consisting of salmon and beer, writing, "Being faithful to the duties of ordinary daily life might be the most noble way of life," and "You worked hard today."
However, public opinion reacted with extreme aversion to his sharing of his 'ordinary daily life.' Sharp criticism followed in online communities and comment sections, with comments such as, "Shouldn't you be living quietly in remorse out of consideration for the victim?", "Don't come out, as even brushing past you is unpleasant," "What did the neighbors do to deserve this?", and "The very sight of him walking around with his face covered is chilling."
Meanwhile, this is not the first time Go Young-wook has engaged in inappropriate behavior on social media. Last month, he drew fierce criticism for stating that he had received a message of support from a minor fan, saying, "There are still student fans who cherish me purely," and "Thank you for sincerely understanding me." Furthermore, he has recently been embroiled in controversy multiple times for his thoughtless remarks, indiscriminately mentioning the real names of fellow celebrities with whom he had past ties, such as Yoo Jae-suk, Shin Dong-yup, and Lee Min-jung, on social media.
Additionally, on the 6th, sharing footage of Tak Jae-hoon from SBS's "My Little Old Boy," he claimed, "It is a fact I didn't realize before," adding, "Tak Jae-hoon's father is such a successful man, so why did he beg from me like that back when we were in Roo'Ra?" He continued, "It makes me feel a bit bad to think that I haven't heard a single word of thanks from his mother, who knows the whole situation."
Go Young-wook was sentenced to two years and six months in prison in 2013 on charges of sexually assaulting and molesting three minors on four occasions between July 2010 and December 2012. He was the first celebrity to be ordered to wear an electronic tracking device (electronic ankle bracelet), and after his release in 2015, both the period for disclosing his personal information and wearing the electronic ankle bracelet expired.
Although legal punishment has been completed, public sentiment remains cold. Social criticism continues regarding the attitude of a convicted sex offender against children and adolescents who openly displays his daily life and claims of injustice, with critics stating that "there is absolutely no sign of remorse given the severity of the crime."
