[Financial News] MUSINSA supported vulnerable groups, including socially isolated young people, through its resource-circulation program, the ‘MUSINSA Infinite Project.’
According to MUSINSA on the 7th, MUSINSA and its partner brands have been carrying out the ‘MUSINSA Infinite Project’ since March to give new value to clothing resources, including excess inventory.
Eleven partner brands participated in the project, including MUSINSA’s private-label brand Musinsa Standard, as well as NOT ONLY FOR TODAY, DOFFJASON, MAGOODGAN, URBANSTOFF, YALE, 1507 and PLEASENOFOLLOW.
Of the approximately 58,000 items of excess clothing donated by the brands, 81.7%, or about 48,000 items, were sold at the Giving Plus donation store operated by the Miral Welfare Foundation. All proceeds will be used to create a public-interest fund supporting vulnerable groups.
About 10,000 items of clothing weighing approximately 500 kilograms that were difficult to resell were made into ‘upcycled wardrobes’ based on textile panels. MUSINSA selected wardrobes as the support item after considering their connection to the fashion industry and the needs of socially withdrawn and isolated young people.
Haneul Kim, an upcycling design expert, made the furniture.
MUSINSA selected a total of 15 socially withdrawn and isolated young people and delivered Musinsa Standard winter clothing sets consisting of wardrobes, heavy down jackets, cashmere scarves, and Heat Standard tops and bottoms.
According to Giving Plus’s own estimates, the project reduced carbon emissions by 9,972 kilograms, an effect equivalent to planting 1,160 30-year-old pine seedlings.
A MUSINSA official said, "With the active participation of our partner brands, we turned discarded clothing that could have been thrown away into resources and completed a virtuous cycle by redistributing them to vulnerable groups." The official added, "We hope the upcycled wardrobes and clothing delivered this time will provide socially withdrawn and isolated young people with a small measure of courage and comfort as they take steps into the outside world."
