'WooriCON' is a simulated hacking competition launched by Woori Bank in 2021 as the first of its kind in the financial industry, marking its sixth edition this year. Through the competition, Woori Bank is fostering top talent in information security and supporting youth employment, thereby practicing socially responsible management.
A total of 40 teams (109 undergraduate and graduate students) that passed the document screening will participate in this competition. The event will run for two weeks starting today. It is a 'bug bounty' (security vulnerability reporting reward system) designed to identify and eliminate potential security vulnerabilities in digital banking services, such as Woori Bank Internet Banking and Woori WON Banking.
Woori Bank will evaluate the importance of the potential vulnerabilities identified by each team and select four teams—one Grand Prize winner, one Top Excellence Award winner, one Excellence Award winner, and one Encouragement Award winner—awarding a total of 4.6 million won in prize money. Winners will receive preferential treatment during the document screening process when applying for employment at Woori Bank's Tech Division or the Financial Security Institute.
Seo Seung-yeon, Head of Information Security at Woori Bank, said, "As AI-based cyberattacks are rapidly becoming more sophisticated, it is becoming difficult to respond with existing security systems alone," adding, "I hope this competition will serve as a platform to proactively respond to new types of cyberattacks and discover information security professionals."
Meanwhile, Woori Bank began its "Recruitment of New Employees for the Second Half of 2026" last month. In this recruitment, the Tech Division is selecting talent specialized in information protection and financial security, in addition to hiring existing IT development experts. The plan is to strengthen customer information protection and IT security capabilities through this.
