[Financial News] Krafton Chairman Chang Byung-gyu met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Damodardas Modi to discuss ways to expand cooperation in gaming and emerging technologies. Krafton plans to invest an additional $250 million in India over the next three to four years, expanding its investments in the local gaming ecosystem and emerging technologies.
Krafton announced on the 7th that Chairman Chang Byung-gyu held talks with Prime Minister Narendra Damodardas Modi in New Delhi, India, on the 4th (local time), reaffirming the company’s commitment to long-term cooperation.
The meeting focused on ways for the two countries to cooperate in fostering the growth of India’s gaming and emerging technology sectors. The participants exchanged views on measures to support the global expansion of games and digital content produced in India. This aligns with the Indian government’s Viksit Bharat (Developed India) vision and its policy direction to “Make in India, Make for India, and Make for the World.”
Krafton has invested approximately $250 million in India to date and plans to invest an additional $250 million over the next three to four years. To expand its investments in India, the company also established the $670 million Unicorn Growth Fund (UGF) with NAVER and Mirae Asset.
Krafton plans to focus its future investments on the growth of Indian gaming intellectual property (IP), startups, and the local gaming ecosystem. It will also broaden its investment scope to emerging technology fields such as artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, and deep tech.
Krafton Chairman Chang Byung-gyu said, “India is a major market with outstanding talent across gaming, technology, and innovation. Krafton’s continued investment reflects our long-term confidence in India and our commitment to contributing to the country’s digital economy.”
He added, “Through investment, talent development programs, and a focus on emerging technologies, we will work with India’s creators, developers, and entrepreneurs to build experiences and technologies that resonate around the world.”
