Emergency Leadership Committee Proposed to Address ‘Lee Jun-seok Vacuum’; Chun Ha-ram Calls for Partywide Vote

[Financial News] Chun Ha-ram, acting leader and floor leader of the Reform Party, proposed on the 7th establishing an emergency leadership committee as an early solution to the party’s leadership vacuum following the resignation of former leader Lee Jun-seok. He said the party would hold a vote among all members this week on whether to establish the committee.
At a press conference held at the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea that day, Chun said, "I had supported holding a national convention to resolve the party’s situation." He added, "After gathering opinions within the party through last Friday’s meeting of provincial and metropolitan party committee chairs, I confirmed that the view that the party needs to be promptly stabilized by transitioning to an emergency leadership committee has both necessity and rationale, and that it enjoys broad support within the party."
Chun said, "No one can deny that the Reform Party is currently in an emergency situation." He explained, "We concluded that, to quickly stabilize the Reform Party, it is necessary to appoint a chair of the emergency leadership committee, form the committee, and pursue more sweeping changes and renewal."
Unlike the Democratic Party of Korea and the People Power Party, the Reform Party’s constitution contains no provisions on establishing an emergency leadership committee. When Lee Jun-seok founded the Reform Party in 2024, the party decided not to have such a committee in order to differentiate itself from the People Power Party. Instead, it requires the party to hold a national convention within 60 days to elect its next leadership.
Chun plans to amend the party constitution to address this issue. He also plans to ask party members for their views through a partywide vote. "Because this is an important amendment, we will hold a vote among all party members on whether to approve the constitutional amendment establishing an emergency leadership committee," he said. "The vote on the constitutional amendment will be conducted as a mobile vote using the K-voting system and is scheduled to take place this week."
He added, "If our fellow party members grant us permission, we will promptly form an emergency leadership committee to quickly normalize the party’s emergency situation. We also hope to use this as an opportunity for change through renewal, enabling the party to receive even greater love and support from the public."
