【Financial News, Daegu—Reporter Kim Jang-wook】Daegu Metropolitan City is making every effort to enhance the competitiveness of its local startup ecosystem by advancing startup ideas and strengthening commercialization capabilities.
According to Daegu Metropolitan City, 121 participants from the Daegu area were selected from among the 1,100 people who passed the first preliminary round of Everyone's Startup. The city will help them refine their startup ideas and strengthen their commercialization capabilities through personalized mentoring leading up to the final audition.
The 1,100 people selected through the first preliminary round will receive various forms of support, including commercialization funding. A final group of 200 participants will then be selected through regional and broader-area auditions and evaluations.
Lee Eun-kyung, director of the Startup and Venture Division, emphasized, "Through this first preliminary round, we were able to confirm the potential of local startup talent with fresh ideas and technological capabilities." She added, "We will continue to further strengthen the competitiveness of the local startup ecosystem so that founders with technology and ideas can grow in Daegu and continue pursuing new challenges."
Organized by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, Everyone's Startup supports anyone who wishes to freely pursue a startup with an idea. The program is divided into general and technology, and local categories, and provides stage-based competitions, mentoring, and funds for startup activities.
Of the 5,000 challengers recruited nationwide last May, 1,100 were ultimately selected after the first preliminary round held from June through August. Daegu accounted for 11% of all those selected, with 121 participants chosen in total—52 in the general and technology category and 69 in the local category.
In particular, many participants in Daegu’s general and technology category were selected after presenting innovative ideas incorporating advanced technologies. The city plans to work with local mentoring organizations, including the Daegu Center for Creative Economy and Innovation, universities, and accelerators, to provide personalized mentoring that will improve the commercialization and presentation skills of local participants who passed the first preliminary round and help them enhance their competitiveness and fully demonstrate their capabilities through the final audition.
Meanwhile, the city expects this audition to identify local startup talent with technological capabilities and growth potential, while laying the foundation for creative ideas to lead to actual startups and commercialization.
