Busan, Ulsan and South Gyeongsang Province Launch Regional Linkage Project: “Creating a Single Job and Living Zone”

[Financial News] Busan, Ulsan and South Gyeongsang Province are launching joint initiatives to create a single “job and living zone” that transcends administrative boundaries.
Busan Metropolitan City Government announced on the 7th that it will hold the launch ceremony for the “Gwangyeok Ieum Project,” or Regional Linkage Project, with Ulsan Metropolitan City and South Gyeongsang Province at the second exhibition hall of Busan Exhibition and Convention Center (BEXCO) at 10 a.m. on the 8th.
Chun Jae-soo, mayor of Busan; Kim Sang-wook, mayor of Ulsan; Park Wan-su, governor of South Gyeongsang Province; Kwon Chang-jun, vice minister of the Ministry of Employment and Labor (MOEL); and about 150 officials from industry and related organizations will attend the launch ceremony.
The Gwangyeok Ieum Project is a practical example of ultra-wide-area cooperation that turns collaboration among Busan, Ulsan and South Gyeongsang Province into concrete job-related initiatives.
The project will be carried out over four years, beginning with three initiatives—“Injae Ieum” (Talent Linkage), “Jeongju Ieum” (Settlement Linkage) and “Mirae Ieum” (Future Linkage)—and seven detailed programs. A total project budget of 12.5 billion won will be invested this year.
Injae Ieum will help young talent from the Seoul metropolitan area and elsewhere settle initially and build assets as they move into companies in the key industries of Busan, Ulsan and South Gyeongsang Province. It will also support asset building for young talent who relocate within the region or commute across the region, encouraging long-term employment.
Jeongju Ieum will support workers who commute across Busan, Ulsan and South Gyeongsang Province and provide employment services across the three areas. The initiative aims to create a settlement environment where people can work and live conveniently beyond administrative boundaries.
Mirae Ieum will train specialists needed for the artificial intelligence transformation (AX) of industries in Busan, Ulsan and South Gyeongsang Province. It will also support joint research among companies and cooperation in production and supply chains, laying the foundation for creating sustainable jobs in the future.
Following the launch ceremony, the Gwangyeok Ieum Job Fair and the Marine and Fisheries Job Fair will be held to connect companies and talent beyond regional boundaries.
The event venue will feature a large-company promotional hall, a corporate recruitment hall, an ultra-wide-area employment services hall, a special headhunting hall, an employment support hall and a settlement support hall.
In the afternoon, a policy forum on the Gwangyeok Ieum Project will be held. Regional experts will discuss the direction of ultra-wide-area employment policy and cooperation tasks for Busan, Ulsan and South Gyeongsang Province.
Busan Metropolitan City Government plans to use the project as an opportunity to strengthen the cooperation system linking the industries, talent and jobs of Busan, Ulsan and South Gyeongsang Province. It will also expand the foundation for cooperation so that the three areas can grow together as a single job and living zone.
Mayor Chun said, “Busan, Ulsan and South Gyeongsang Province are divided into separate administrative areas, but they form a single living zone in which industries, talent, jobs and daily life are closely connected.” He added, “Through the Gwangyeok Ieum Project, we will create diverse job opportunities that transcend regional boundaries.”\u00a0
