Coupang Launches Furniture Insurance, Offering Industry-First Free Warranty and Damage Coverage

[Financial News] Coupang is expanding the coverage of its Coupang Care insurance service, previously focused on home appliances and electronic products, to include furniture.
According to industry sources on the 7th, Coupang has introduced the industry’s first free furniture warranty and damage insurance. The company expanded the service to reduce customers’ financial burden from damage or quality issues that may occur after purchasing furniture.
The Furniture Care insurance, introduced in July, covers repair costs when furniture purchased from Coupang is damaged by external impact or breaks down after the manufacturer’s basic quality warranty expires. Coverage lasts for up to three years from the date of delivery completion, including the manufacturer’s basic warranty period.
If bed or sofa frames, legs, or other parts are damaged by external impact, repair costs are covered up to two times. If functional defects occur in components such as wardrobe hinges or dresser rails, repair costs are covered without a limit on the number of claims after the manufacturer’s warranty expires, subject to the total coverage limit.
Customers can choose a coverage limit ranging from 100,000 won to 5 million won. Regardless of furniture type, premiums for a 1 million won coverage limit are approximately 45,000 won for two years and 60,000 won for three years.
Insurance claims can be filed through the Lotte Insurance app. Repairs are carried out by service centers officially designated by the manufacturer or by partner companies.
Coupang currently offers the insurance for major furniture brands that provide after-sales repair services, including Iloom, Casamia, Hanssem, DESKER, and SIDIZ. The company plans to expand the participating brands in stages.
Coupang plans to link the Furniture Care insurance with Rocket Installation, its delivery and installation service, to strengthen related services from furniture purchases and installation through after-sales care.
A Coupang representative said, "The introduction of furniture insurance is part of our efforts to further enhance the customer experience," adding, "We will continue to actively expand Coupang’s differentiated benefits and services."
