War-depleted Iran Set to Raise Gasoline Prices

[Financial News] The Iranian government has announced plans to raise gasoline prices for drivers who use large amounts of fuel. The move appears aimed at addressing economic hardship triggered by the war and strong economic sanctions imposed by the United States.
On the 6th local time, Iranian government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani said, "Fuel prices for low-volume users will remain unchanged, but the price for amounts exceeding the 110-liter limit will rise to 100,000 rials per liter." Regarding the increase, Mohajerani explained that it was "due to the circumstances we currently face," adding, "Drivers will still be able to purchase up to 60 liters at 15,000 rials per liter and an additional 50 liters at 30,000 rials per liter."
The proposed increase in Iran’s gasoline prices, which are among the lowest in the world, had initially been discussed within the government but was postponed amid concerns that it could trigger new anti-government protests. In 2019, Iran experienced large-scale nationwide protests over the same issue.
