Amazon Cargo Plane Veers Off Runway and Catches Fire at Miami Airport

[Financial News] A large cargo plane operated by e-commerce company Amazon.com, Inc. veered off the runway at Miami International Airport in the United States and caught fire after colliding with vehicles. The incident temporarily suspended all aircraft operations at Miami airport, one of the busiest airports in the United States.
On the 6th (local time), the Associated Press, citing the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), reported that a Prime Air cargo plane that departed from San Juan in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and landed at Miami International Airport veered off the runway. The aircraft then collided with a large truck and other vehicles on a nearby road before being engulfed in flames.
The Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department dispatched about 60 fire trucks to the scene after receiving reports of the incident and carried out firefighting and rescue operations. Authorities have not yet disclosed the exact number of casualties or injuries.
All runways and taxiways at Miami airport were completely closed following the accident. According to flight-tracking website FlightAware, more than 250 flights were delayed in the aftermath. Sean Duffy, the U.S. transportation secretary, sent FAA investigators to the airport.
The aircraft was a 32-year-old Boeing 767 operated by 21 Air. It had previously been used as a passenger aircraft before being converted into a cargo plane in 2015. As the National Transportation Safety Board began investigating the cause of the accident, Amazon.com, Inc. spokesperson Kelly Nantel said, "We are working with local authorities to determine exactly what happened, and the safety and relief efforts for those involved remain our top priority."
