Cho Hyun Arrives in Kathmandu, Holds South Korea-Nepal Talks and Voices Concern Over Nine Missing South Koreans

[Financial News] Foreign Minister Cho Hyun, who is visiting Kathmandu, Nepal, held talks with Nepalese Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal on the 6th (local time). Cho Hyun is visiting Nepal from the 5th to the 7th.
Cho Hyun expressed deep condolences to all those affected by the floods in Nepal. He also voiced deep concern that the whereabouts of nine Korean nationals who remain out of contact have yet to be confirmed. He asked the Nepalese government to provide special attention and support to ensure a thorough search for the missing South Koreans.
The two sides also discussed the status of ongoing search-and-rescue operations for victims in Nepal, the Nepalese government’s efforts to address the damage, and support from the South Korean government.
On the 2nd, the South Korean government dispatched a Korea Disaster Relief Team (KDRT) equipped with the search, rescue, and forensic equipment requested by Nepal. The team has since been conducting search-and-rescue operations in cooperation with Nepalese authorities.
Cho Hyun also told the Nepalese side that South Korea plans to provide in-kind assistance worth 130 million won, along with $1 million in humanitarian assistance through the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC). Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal expressed gratitude for the support.
An MOFA official said, "South Korea and Nepal agreed to continue strengthening cooperation in addressing climate change on the international stage, while maintaining close communication to ensure smooth search-and-rescue operations and support the swift recovery of daily life for the people of Nepal."
