Landslide Strikes Amid Massive Flooding in Nepal; Two Dead as Rescue Efforts for Isolated People Continue

[Financial News] Two hydropower plant workers died after landslides and flooding struck an area about 100 kilometers west of the main disaster zone of Nepal's massive floods, where at least approximately 6,000 people have died or gone missing.
According to the Kathmandu Post and other outlets on the 6th, a landslide occurred at around 11 a.m. the previous day at the construction site of the Super Seti Hydropower Project in Kaski, Gandaki Pradesh, central Nepal. Two Nepalese workers at the site were injured and taken to a hospital, where they later died. Another worker sustained minor injuries. The two deceased workers were reportedly struck by a landslide that came down from above while they were excavating an access road to the power plant.
Earlier, on the 4th and 5th, survivors who had been trapped in hydropower plant tunnels by the massive floods were rescued on two consecutive days.
On the 5th, Nepal Army spokesperson Raja Ram Basnet said, "We rescued one Chinese national from a tunnel at the construction site of the Upper Trishuli-I Hydropower Project in Rasuwa, Bagmati Province, in north-central Nepal." The Nepal Army said a joint rescue team made up of Nepal Army personnel and South Korean disaster experts found the man alive in a 225-meter-long tunnel. Military medical staff were checking his condition. The Kathmandu Post reported that the rescued Chinese man was named Lu Haitao.
A day earlier, on the 4th, Nepalese rescuers also rescued two Nepalese employees, Sanjay Sahi and Kabir Maharjan, from a tunnel at the Upper Trishuli 3A Hydropower Station. The survivors were transferred to a military hospital and remain in intensive care, but their pulse, breathing and body temperature are reportedly stable.
Nepalese rescue teams have been searching several hydropower plant tunnels, believing that hundreds of employees may be trapped inside. The site where the Chinese man was rescued on the 5th was confirmed to be the power plant where nine missing South Korean workers were employed, drawing greater attention to future rescue efforts. The Chinese survivor said, "There was one more person nearby, but I do not know whether that person is alive or dead," raising hopes that additional survivors may be found.
